AUTO ACCIDENT
February 28- At 16:35 hours Engine Rescue 3 and Special Unit 3 responded to an auto accident in Box 3-5 in the 1800 block of Waynesboro Pike. Initial unconfirmed reports stated entrapment and possible ejection. Units responding found 2 vehicles involved, 1 over the embankment with negative entrapment or ejection. Company 3 assisted with patient care and traffic control. Units cleared the scene at 17:40 hours.

ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET
February 23- Members and guests gathered at the Fairfield Fire Department's social room for the 2007 Annual Awards Banquet. The Top Ten Responders for 2007 were: Dave Martin, Larry Fowler, Brad Martin, Duke Martin, Peggy Martin, Charlie Berger, Sarah Martin, Keith Rudisill, Sam Ginn, and Steve Funk. The Chief's Awards were presented to apparatus operators Brad Martin and Larry Fowler for their dedication. The Polly Award winner was Steve Fitz.

CHIMNEY FIRE
January 19th- At 18:00 hours Engine Tanker 3 was dispatched to assist Company 2 (Fairfield) in Carroll Valley Boro at 24 Robin Trail for a chimney fire. Engine Tanker 3's crew and Emmitsburg Fire Department's crew assisted with the roof operations.

FIRST 2008 INCIDENT FOR ADAMS COUNTY
January 1st- 12 minutes after midnight Company 3 was dispatched to Frederick County for a brush fire. Engine Rescue 3, Special Unit 3 and Brush 3 responded to 17601 Sunshine Lane. Units found a power line that had fallen and started a small brush fire in the woods. Company 3 cleared the scene after the arrival of the power company.
VEHICLE ACCIDENTS
December 27th- At 17:54 hours Engine Rescue 3 and Special Unit 3 were dispatched to an auto accident at the intersection of Waynesboro Pike (Route 16) and Harbaugh Valley Road. Units responding found 2 vehicles involved in a "T-bone" collision. Company 3 was assisted by Franklin County Ambulance 4-8 and Fire Police from Company 2 and Franklin County Company 4. Company 3 cleared the scene at 19:10 hours.

December 23rd- Engine Rescue 3 responded at 13:43 hours to 120 Harbaugh Valley Road for an auto accident. One vehicle was found off the roadway after striking a vinyl fence row. Company 3 was assisted by Franklin County Company 4 Ambulance and cleared the scene at 14:17 hours.

December 8th- Special Unit 3, Engine Rescue 3 and Ambulance 2A were alerted for a vehicle accident at the intersection of Jacks Mountain Road and Waynesboro Pike at 16:19 hours. Responding units found a single vehicle off the roadway, on it's nose, into a tree. Company 3 assisted with patient care and traffic control.

EVOC TRAINING
Members from Fountaindale, Cashtown, Waynesboro, and South Mountain Fire Departments participated in EVOC Driver's training hosted by Company 3 on November 16th and 18th. Classroom instruction on Friday evening was followed up with hands on apparatus driving at the EVOC course at Adams County Emergency Services training center on Sunday.
MAJOR DAMAGE
November 15th- Communications originally dispatched Company 3 Fire Police to assist with a non-injury vehicle accident at the intersection of Waynesboro Pike and Jacks Mountain Road. Chief 3 arrived on the scene and found 3 vehicles involved and debris scattered approximately 100 feet on the roadway. Special Unit 3 was requested to the scene to assist with debris removal and traffic control. A Nissan Maxima was attempting to turn left into Jacks Mountain Road when an eastbound tractor and trailer collided with the vehicle after attempting to avoid the collision. This impact resulted in the auto wedging underneath the tractor and trailer and being forced into the westbound lane where it was impacted by yet another tractor and trailer. Miraculously only the car's driver was transported by Ambulance 2A for a precautionary checkup. The Nissan Maxima (pictured below) suffered severe front and rear end damage. Special Unit 3 cleared the scene at 09:13 hours.

ASSIST ON THE BUILDING FIRE
November 12th- At 20:41 hours Company 3 was dispatched mutual aid to Washington County Company 9 (Leitersburg Fire Department) for a building fire. The fire was located at an apple packing warehouse shed at Rinehart's Orchard. Engine Rescue 3 responded and assisted with overhaul, which consisted of removing firewood "brigade style" from the basement area. Company 3 was available from the scene at 22:48 hours.

VEHICLE ACCIDENT
September 27th- Engine Rescue 3 and Special Unit 3 responded to a vehicle accident on Waynesboro Pike, between Autumn and Valley Trails. Initial reports indicated a vehicle rolled over with unknown entrapment. Units arrived on the scene and found one pick-up truck in the roadway on its side with negative entrapment or confinement. Company 3 assisted with patient care and traffic control.

Mutual Aide to Franklin County
September 19th- Engine Tanker 3 was dispatched to transfer to Franklin County Company 5 (Mont Alto) at 17:25 hours. Shortly after arriving at Company 5, Engine Tanker 3 was dispatched to assist with the barn fire on Shimpstown Road in Mercersburg (Company 9). Engine Tanker 3 assisted with the water supply operation and returned to service at 21:18 hours.

REPORT OF SMOKE IN THE DWELLING
August 24th- At 10:22 AM Company 3 was alerted to 13939 Old Route 16 (Franklin County Box 4-1) for a report of smoke in the dwelling. Engine Tanker 3 responded and assisted on the scene with a check of the interior with the thermal imaging camera. Company 3 returned to service at 10:58 AM after no source of smoke was found.

ASSIST TO WASHINGTON COUNTY
August 9th- Engine Tanker 3 was dispatched at 22:25 hours to assist in Washington County on a dwelling fire. Responding units found a fully involved house fire at 14149 Poplar Grove Road in Leitersburg (Box 9-6). Engine Tanker 3 assisted with water supply in the tanker shuttle set up at the scene. Company 3 returned to quarters at 01:00 hours.

BUSY TRANSFER ASSIGNMENT
August 3rd- Engine Tanker 3 was dispatched at approximately 21:15 hours to transfer to Franklin County Company 2 during their dwelling fire (see photo below). While entering the Borough of Waynesboro, Engine Tanker 3 was dispatched to West Third Street for smoke in the basement. Engine Tanker 3 staged at the hydrant on South Potomac Street and West Third Street. After completing this call, Engine Tanker 3 responded to 2 wires calls and a tree fire. Engine Tanker 3 returned to Company 2 after handling these storm related calls and returned to service shortly after midnight.

MUTUAL AID MOBILE HOME FIRE
August 2nd- At approximately 5:30 PM Engine Tanker 3 responded to Green Lane in Franklin County box 4-3 for a mobile home fire. Responding units were notified by the police department first on the scene of a working fire. Engine Tanker 3 assisted with water supply with Chief 3 being water supply officer.

FULLY INVOLVED GARAGE FIRE
July 30th- At approximately 2:00 AM Company 3 was dispatched to 10589 Old Forge Road, Franklin County Box 4-3 for a garage fire. Responding units found a structure fully involved. Engine Rescue 3 and Engine Tanker 3 assisted on the scene with 8 personnel. Engine Tanker 3 set up its port-a-tank and assisted with water shuttling operations.

ASSIST ON THE BUILDING FIRE
July 28th- At approximately 2:30 AM, Engine Tanker 3 was dispatched to assist in Franklin County for a building fire at 7441 Mentzer Gap Road (Box 5-06). Engine Tanker 3 arrived on the scene and it's crew of 7 assisted with manpower on the fire ground and also shuttling water. Company 3 was in service at 5:00 AM.

Fire Truck Rides
On Saturday July 21st, Fountaindale Fire Department participated in the annual Blue Ridge Summit's Library Ice Cream Social by giving fire truck rides. Engine Rescue 3 hauled a record number of children and adults throughout the morning and afternoon.

SPECIAL UNIT 3 IS IN SERVICE
After much anticipation by Company 3 members the Special Unit was placed into service at the monthly company meeting on July 11th. Below are pictures of members working to get the equipment mounted and hose loaded. Members also helped "push" the Special Unit into it's station as a tradition with a new unit being placed into service. For more information on this unit check out the Apparatus page.

Company 3 attends local parades
Parade season kicked off with the Blue Ridge Summit Heritage Days parade on June 30th where Special Unit 3 made it's first unofficial public appearance. Also that afternoon Engine Rescue 3 attended the Smithsburg Fire Department's 75th anniversary parade and was awarded 1st place best appearing Rescue Engine.
Company 3 also participated in the annual July 4th parade held in Waynesboro and was awarded the 2nd place best appearing fire department.
Engine Rescue 3 and Special Unit 3 attended the Thurmont Fire Department's annual parade on Thursday July 12th and won first place with the Engine Rescue.

Fountaindale members were kept busy with the annual Mother's Day Flower Sale and our annual spring yard sale in June. Thanks to the community for their support during these events!
Auto Accident
May 11th- While the annual Mother's Day Flower sale fundraiser was in progress a head-on collision occurred at the intersection of Waynesboro Pike (Route 16) and Harbaugh Valley Road. Engine Rescue 3 and it's crew were on the scene within seconds after the crash and assisted with patient care, fluid containment, and traffic control.
House Fire Franklin County Box 4-1
April 21st- At 21:55 hours Company 3 was dispatched to assist in Blue Ridge Summit for a house fire on Dutrow Avenue. The Police Department arrived on the scene initially and advised they had a working fire and a burn patient. Trooper 3 was requested for the burn patient and Engine Rescue 3 handled the landing zone at Company 4's station then proceeded to the fire scene. The crew from Engine Tanker 3 and Engine Rescue 3 assisted on the scene with suppression, salvage, and overhaul. Thanks to Cashtown for covering our station during the house fire!

Assist on the dwelling fire
April 5th- Engine Rescue 3 was initially dispatched to transfer to Franklin County Company 2 (Waynesboro) during their multiple structures on fire. After arriving at Waynesboro, Engine Rescue 3 was requested to the scene. The fire involved 3 structures in the 300 block of South Church Street. Engine Rescue 3 staged at the hydrant at the intersection of Fourth Street and South Church Street and supplied Engine 2-2 and Tower 2. Manpower was sent to the scene to assist with suppression and over haul. Engine Rescue 3 was dispatched back to Company 2 to transfer a few hours later during a re-kindle.

Back in service
After several months of being out of service, Brush 3 is now back in service. The truck has a new skid unit installed with a 225 gallon tank.
Vehicle Accident
March 16th- Engine Rescue 3 responded to a single vehicle accident on the Jacks Mountain Road during a snowy Friday morning.
Transfer assignment
March 8th- Engine Rescue 3 was dispatched to standby at Franklin County Company 2 (Waynesboro Fire Department). The Engine Rescue and it's crew covered for Waynesboro while they assisted Greencastle Fire Department with a building fire at the Greencastle McDonald's restaurant.
Chimney Fire Frederick County Box 6-23
March 6th- Engine Tanker 3 was dispatched at 3:45 AM to assist Emmitsburg Fire Department with a chimney fire on Eylers Valley Road. Fountaindale's crew assisted with roof operations and clean out of the chimney.

Special Unit 3's CAFS Demonstration
Members participated in a hands-on demonstration of Special Unit 3's CAFS system pump manufactured by CET on Saturday March 3rd. Members were able to see how CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System) will be beneficial on the fire ground once the Special Unit is in service.
Assist on the commercial building fire Special box 8-12
At 11:27 AM on Sunday February 25th, Engine Tanker 3 was dispatched to Zeigler Brothers in Aspers for the building fire. The Engine Tanker hauled 3 loads of water to assist with the multi-alarm fire.

ANNUAL AWARDS BANQUET
The 2006 annual awards banquet for Company 3 was held on Saturday February 24th. A special thanks to Emmitsburg Fire Department for covering our station so our members could enjoy the evening. Awards presented:

Franklin County Box 4-3 Dwelling fire
At 03:37 hours on February 23rd Company 3 was dispatched to 10208 Calimer Drive to assist with a dwelling fire. Engine Tanker 3 and Engine Rescue 3 responded and assisted with water supply and suppression.

At 18:02 hours Engine Tanker 3 was dispatched to assist in Washington County box 7-6 for a dwelling fire. Units responding found a working house fire at 14247 McAfee Hill Road. Engine Tanker 3 cleared the scene at 22:42 hours.

Engine Tanker 3 was later dispatched at 00:25 hours for a transfer to Franklin County Company 4 (Blue Ridge Summit) during a rekindle of the McAfee Hill Road house fire. Company 3 cleared the transfer assignment at 01:48 hours.
Company 3 receives federal grant
Fountaindale has been awarded their 5th consecutive DHS/FEMA Assistance to Firefighter's grant for $24,168.00 This will be used to purchase wild land firefighting gear, a back-up generator for the fire station and various pieces of audio-visual equipment for training.

*Feb. 2nd- Frederick County box 10-29- vehicle accident on Fort Ritchie Road.
*Feb. 3rd- Reported dwelling fire in Franklin County box 4-3 on Mentzer Gap Road, Engine Tanker 3 requested to then transfer to Blue Ridge Summit, Company 4.
*Feb. 3rd- Medical assist with a cardiac arrest in box 3-7 on Emory Lane.
*Feb. 4th- Frederick County box 10-29 reported as smoke in the dwelling (furnace malfunction) on Rowland Hill Road.
Transfer assignment January 23
Company 3 was dispatched at 05:30 hours to transfer to Waynesboro, Franklin County Company 2. Engine Rescue 3 responded and remained at Waynesboro for almost 9 hours during their building fire on Mulberry Street.
Vehicle Accident Box Area 3-2
Engine Rescue 3 responded on Sunday January 21st to the 2400 block of Waynesboro Pike (Route 16) for a vehicle accident. Units found a pick up truck that had rolled over and came to rest back on its wheels. Company 3 assisted with debris removal and traffic control.
Frederick County Box 10-29 January 5, 2007
At 16:08 hours Engine Rescue 3 was dispatched to the 16000 block of Sabillasville Road for a vehicle accident. Responding units found one vehicle off the roadway with a fuel leak. Company 3 assisted with patient care and containment of the gasoline leak. Units cleared at 17:57 hours.

2006 INCIDENT ARCHIVES
December 31st- Company 3 responded to the last call of 2006 for Adams County at 11:55 hours. Engine Rescue 3 responded to wires down at the intersection of Thunder Trail and Iron Springs Road. Many residents in the area rang in the New Year in the dark as a result of the power outage from the wires down.
Christmas Party with Santa
Company 3 held it's annual community Christmas Party on Sunday December 17th.
Heavily Involved Structure Fire
Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at 00:35 hours Box 3-7 Location: 10 Scotch Trail
Units were dispatched to Iron Springs Road (exact location unknown initially) for a possible working structure fire. Engine Tanker 3 arrived on scene and determined the exact address of 10 Scotch Trail (cross street Bourbon Trail). Units arrived to find a fully involved single story structure under construction. Command determined a defensive attack mode due to the deteriorating conditions of the structure. Crews advanced numerous hand lines from Engine Tanker 3 and Engine Rescue 3. Water supply was established with a tanker shuttle. Frederick County Engine Tanker 104 established a fill site at the lake of the Blue Ridge Sportsmen's Association on the Waynesboro Pike. The under construction dwelling was 95% completed and declared a total loss. Adams County Fire Marshal Glenn Herring and the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the origin of the blaze. Units remained on the scene for 3 hours.

Busy Sunday afternoon
December 10th- Engine Tanker 3 was dispatched for a transfer assignment at 15:20 hours to Blue Ridge Summit (Franklin County Company 4). Minutes after arriving at Company 4 the Engine Tanker was requested to assist on the mountain fire on Tower Road (Box 4-1). The crew of 6 assisted with the 1/2 acre mountain fire in the steep, rocky terrain.
While the Engine Tanker and it's crew assisted Blue Ridge Summit, the Engine Rescue was dispatched for a motorcycle accident on Jacks Mountain Road (Box 3-5). Assistant 3 arrived on the scene to find a dirt bike accident off the roadway. Company 3 assisted with patient care and packaging and the patient was airlifted to an area hospital. Thanks to Fairfield (Company 2) for handling the landing zone.
December 5th- Fountaindale volunteers responded to 2 mutual aid calls. First dispatch was at approximately 16:15 hours to Frederick County Box 10-27, Buck Lantz Road for a structure fire. Engine Rescue 3 and Engine Tanker 3 were placed in service while responding. 2nd dispatch was at approximately 20:45 hours to Washington County Box 9-3, Pen Mar-High Rock Road for a chimney fire. Both engines were advised to level 1 stage at Pen Mar Park before being placed in service by command 9.
Dwelling fire
December 4th- 18:51 hours- Box 2-9 Carroll Valley Borough- Bluebird Trail
Assistant Chief 3 arrived on the scene and advised units responding of a working structure fire. Engine Tanker 3 and Engine Rescue 3 arrived on the scene to find fire through the roof. Engine Tanker 3 established water supply at the intersection of Bluebird and Finch Trails. Fountaindale's engine crews assisted Fairfield with interior suppression. Units remained on the scene until 22:00 hours completing extensive salvage and overhaul.

On Saturday October 28th firefighter Brad Martin married Laurel Swope at nearby Greenstone Apostolic Church in Fountaindale. The newlyweds were escorted by Deputy Chief Charlie Berger in Engine Tanker 3 to the reception. Company 3 wishes Brad and Laurel a very happy future together!
Busy weekend
October 27th-29th Company 3 volunteers were kept busy with 8 incidents throughout the last weekend of the month.
IT'S HERE...
October 25th- Special Unit 3 arrived at the station this afternoon. It is a 2007 Ford F-550 Crew Cab with a 5 man cab. Stay tuned for more pictures and details of this unit.
October 22nd- Company 3 was dispatched at approximately 00:30 hours to transfer to Waynesboro (Franklin County Company 2), Station ,1 during their 2 alarm apartment building fire. Engine Tanker 3 and it's crew cleared the standby at 03:00 hours.
Terrorism Drill
October 14th- Engine Tanker 3 participated in the mock terrorist drill held at Letterkenny Army Depot. The drill was coordinated by the South Central Pennsylvania Regional Counter-Terrorism Task Force. Engine Tanker 3 was dispatched to the scene with Franklin County Company 18 for mass decon.
Frederick County Box 10-30
October 11th- At 21:40 hours Engine Rescue 3 was dispatched to 17307 Sabillasville Road for an auto accident. Engine Rescue 3 with a crew of 7 arrived on the scene to find a single vehicle off the roadway into a tree. The vehicle sustained extensive damage and Company 3 assisted with patient care and scene hazards. Units cleared the scene at approximately 23:00 hours.
Fire Prevention Week October 8-14
- This years theme is "Prevent cooking fires: Watch what you heat." According to NFPA, the leading cause of cooking fires is unattended cooking.

Pardon the dust...
The station has been under going some small renovations to install new equipment to be used. The floor was cut to install a new drainage system for the installation of a gear washer. We are also installing a gear and hose dryer. Thanks to all of those who have taken time to carry out this much needed project!!
The Fountaindale Volunteer Fire Department remembers the fallen heroes on the 5 year anniversary of September 11th. For those that made the ultimate sacrifice, you are forever in our hearts!
Not so typical outside investigation
September 9th- At 10:02 AM Company 3 was dispatched to 17889 Harbaugh Valley Road (Frederick County Box 6-23) for an outside investigation. Engine Rescue 3 and Engine Tanker 3 responded with 7 personnel. Responding units found a vacant 2-story house and a pop-up camper burnt to their foundations. The incident remains under investigation by the Frederick County Fire Marshal's Office and the Frederick County State Police. Units returned to service at 13:32 hours. Special thanks to the Waynesboro Fire Department for covering our station.
At 15:47 hours Fountaindale was dispatched for a re-kindle of the same incident. 8 personnel responded with the Engine Tanker and Engine Rescue and used hand lines to apply foam to the entire structure. Engine Tanker 3's deck gun was used to knock the chimney down to avoid any further safety concerns. Units cleared the scene at 17:26 hours.
Mutual Aid to Waynesboro
September 2nd- Fountaindale was dispatched at approximately 22:00 hours for a transfer to Franklin County Company 2. Engine Rescue 3 responded with 8 personnel on the transfer. Shortly after arriving at Company 2 the Engine Rescue was dispatched to the fire scene (51 West Main Street) to assist as the R.I.T. team. Fountaindale also assisted with salvage and overhaul once the fire was knocked down. Engine Rescue 3 returned to service at 01:40 hours.

Vehicle Accident
August 31st- At 20:30 hours Company 3 was dispatched for a vehicle accident at 1155 Jacks Mountain Road (Box 3-5). Engine Rescue 3 and Engine Tanker 3 responded with 8 personnel. Units found 2 vehicles off the roadway with minor injuries. Company 3 assisted with patient care and traffic control.
